What areas can be treated?

Laser Genesis patients report excellent results over their entire faces and necks. Additionally, we may suggest this therapy to diminish recent scars on other parts of the body.

What does the procedure feel like?

Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure. You can immediately return to normal activities, utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

How does Laser Genesis work?

By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis improves the appearance of wrinkles through collagen stimulation. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

What kind of improvements can you expect with Laser Genesis skin therapy?

Over the course of four to five treatments, Laser Genesis can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.

  • Safely and gently treat diffuse redness
  • Fades acne scarring
  • Continuously stimulates new collagen production
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines
  • Naturally promotes a healthy look
How many treatments will I need?

On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every patient’s condition and needs vary. For more information about your expected results or the number of treatments necessary, consult your physician.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most patients report few if any side effects, the most common is a slight redness that disappears within an hour of treatment.

Limelight/IPL

The limeLight procedure helps to even out red and brown discoloration due to sun damage and aging. This is a great procedure at any age given its corrective benefits for mild to moderately damaged skin to its preventative benefits for future damage.

What areas can be treated?

The LimeLight treatment is ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolleté with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots. Light (low contrast) brown spots, which were previously difficult to resolve, respond very well to treatment.

What do treatments feel like?

When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Gel is recommended to cool the skin before vascular treatments. Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.

How Many treatments will I need?

One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun-damaged skin.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.

When will I see results?

Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.

Will the spots and redness reappear over time?

New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved.

Pearl

The Pearl combines the gentleness of non-invasive treatments with resurfacing, working on the complete outer layer of your skin, or the epidermis. Patients will see smoothing of skin texture including fine lines wrinkles, pore size and mild scarring; lightening of discoloration and an overall softer appearance.

How does the Pearl treatment work?

A pattern of light pulses treats both the top layer and deeper layers of skin, providing long-term benefits with minimal downtime. As you heal, your skin will form a thin protective barrier that will slough around day 3 or 4 after the procedure. In a short time, patients will notice overall skin improvements - all from a treatment with only a short period of “social” downtime.

What is “social” downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 3 - 4 days.

How does a Pearl treatment feel?

The Pearl treatment feels like a series of brief pinches. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing highest level of pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3. In our office we prefer to apply a topical anesthetic gel an hour before treatment to insure your comfort.

When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl treatment?

Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, revealing healthy skin improvements. Make-up may be applied at this time.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl treatment?

After treatment, the skin will look and feel mildly sunburned. Your practitioner will discuss post treatment care.

How many treatments are recommended?

Many patients may need only one treatment. However patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results.

Can Pearl be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Many patients have a Pearl treatment in combination with other existing cosmetic therapies. These include other Cutera laser and light procedures, such as Laser Genesis and LimeLight. We can discuss combination options during your consultation.

Who is a candidate for a Pearl treatment?

Patients with light to medium skin tones and mild to moderate sun damage are ideal candidates.

Combat Facial Volume loss

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers (juvederm, voluma, restylane, volbella, and many others) are used to plump the tissue under the skin to reverse the signs of aging or enhance certain areas, like the lips. The fillers we use at Polyclinic Plastic Surgery are hyaluronic acid based. This means they are fully reversible and can be dissolved with an enzyme if you don’t like the effect.

One of the signs of facial aging is volume loss, especially in the cheeks, temples, and around the mouth. Fillers can provide a soft, natural replacement of this tissue for an immediate improvement without surgery. Some people call this a “liquid facelift.” The most common side effect of having a filler is bruising. You can help avoid bruising by not taking aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, advil, or alleve for ten days before injections. Also, be sure to tell your aesthetic specialist if you take any blood thinning medications.

Filler can also be used after surgery to maintain your results. It lasts 6-18 months depending on the specific product used, location it is injected, and personal metabolic rate.

Many times people are hesitant to try filler, because they have seen overdone results. At Polyclinic Plastic Surgery, we value natural looking results. Your friends should notice you look rested, but not realize you’ve had something “done”.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are non-invasive procedures that aim to accelerate skin exfoliation by the use of chemical solution resulting in renewed, healthier looking skin and more uniform complexion on face, chest and hands.

What skin conditions can chemical Peels treat?

Chemical peels offer a broad range of benefits by treating fine lines, acne/acne scarring, pigment irregularities and rough/damaged skin texture including enlarged pores.

Can chemical peels be done on darker skin types?

Yes. The Peels that we offer are safe for all skin types. Most of the solutions we use contain salicylic acid meaning they are unsafe for anyone with an allergy to asprin.

How often should I get a chemical peel?

Most often we suggest you get a series of peels spaced 4 weeks apart to achieve best results. Chemical peels can also be used for preventative maintenance much like having a facial.

What are the side effects of a chemical peel?

Vitalize Peel® and ZO 3 Step can leave a yellowish tinge on the skin which is expected to last until you wash your skin. Mild to moderate redness is expected after any type of chemical peel procedure. The extent of redness varies from patient to patient. The face may appear redder than usual for some time after the treatment and completely resolves after the peeling is complete.

How much actual peeling do you see?

The extent of peeling can vary due to multiple factors. Some patients see no peeling at all. For most, the degree can range from mild flaking to moderate peeling, somewhat like getting a sunburn. Typically this lasts between 3-5 days with very minimal discomfort.

How often can I have an Express facial treatment?

Treatments can be spaced as little as 2 weeks apart. Most patients have monthly treatments for preventative maintenance.

Will my facial hair grow back thicker and darker?

No, this is truly a myth. Hair must be effected at the root either hormonally or by energy to change its growth pattern. We are removing it only superficially at the surface of the skin.

How soon before an event should I have an Express Facial?

We recommend 1-2 days before a special event. The day of your treatment you may feel slightly sensitive and occasionally have mild redness that dissipates by the following day. Make up goes on much smoother and the immediate glow will last up to a week.

What are the benefits of an Express facial?

We like to refer to this as the improved microdermabrasion. Gentler but also very effective exfoliation. Exfoliation is a necessary action to improving skin health as well as making a more open pathway for increased product penetration. Over time patients can see improved skin texture and decreased rates of breakouts and dull skin.

How long are Express Facial treatments?

Express facials are 30 minutes and have no downtime. Easily done on your lunchbreak or in between appointments.

SOFTEN THE LINES OF LIFE

BOTOX INJECTIONS

There are two types of wrinkles- static and dynamic. Everyone (even babies) can make dynamic wrinkles, meaning that when certain expressions are used the facial muscles are contracting, which results in a wrinkle. Over many years of making facial expressions these lines don’t go away when you stop making the expression- these are called static wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that respond best to Botox.

Botox is used to soften (and sometimes completely erase) fine lines and wrinkles. A tiny needle is used to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into the facial muscles, which relaxes the muscles and results softens the line. Over time with repeated treatment wrinkles can often be completely erased (though if they are very deep, sometimes a filler is used in combination with Botox to completely erase the wrinkle). It can also be used to lift the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth.

Injections typically last 3 to 6 months depending on how quickly you metabolize it and how much is used (someone who prefers a “frozen” look will often have longer results than someone who prefers a natural look with some preserved movement).

The key to incognito injections is preparation- don’t take any aspirin, ibuprofen, advil, alleve, or naproxen for 10 days before injection (and if you take more powerful blood thinners for a medical condition you will want to discuss this with your injector specifically). Ice directly after injection and don’t drink any alcohol the day of injection. These all prevent or minimize bruising. If you tend to bruise consider taking arnica and bromoline starting the day before. Other problems with botox include lowering of the brow and droopy eyelid- these are rare when proper technique is used and most of the time can be corrected with a botox touch up.

PUT YOUR BEST CHIN FORWARD

KYBELLA INJECTIONS

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile—whether you have a moderate amount of chin fullness or more.*

As a KYBELLA-trained healthcare specialist, we will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if KYBELLA® is right for you. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.*

Kybella

Kybella was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in August 2015 for reduction of fat pockets in the neck. Kybella (deoxycholic acid) underwent thorough testing in over two thousand volunteers and was found to be safe and effective in 95% of these people. Since then it has become a very popular alternative to liposuction in the neck since it is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately 20 minutes to perform.

Most people see a difference in their necks after two sets of injections spaced 6 weeks apart. A third or even fourth injection may be needed to complete the full shrinkage of fat. Rarely a fifth injection may need to be performed.

The only side effects are temporary swelling and minor bruising for one to two weeks after the injections. At one month there is a visible change. Most patients can go to work after the treatment or certainly the next day. The actual time for the drug to rupture the fat cells is 18 to 20 minutes after the treatment. Most people find that ice is all that is needed to reduce the mild pain for this short period of time and then over the counter medication such as ibuprofen is all that is needed for the next six hours.

There are three types of neck fat configurations, mild, modest and major amounts of fat. Your doctor will determine which category you fit into and what you can expect from Kybella. Some patients in the major category should consider liposuction rather than Kybella. In addition patients over the age of 70 or with excess skin may not be good candidates for Kybella, a fact supported by research studies prior to approval from the FDA.

So whether you are tired of your profile, tired of what your neck looks like in pictures, or inherited a full neck from you parents, Kybella might be the non-surgical alternative for you. The doctors at The Polyclinic Plastic Surgery have been using Kybella since it was released by the FDA and can examine you and determine if this is the right treatment for you.
