I work as a Program Director for UTOPIA WA, a queer and transgender-led organization based in South King County. I love driving and sightseeing. My idea of a great weekend is watching movies in bed. I do not have any children other than my 9-month-old fur baby, Kiona.

How did you find your surgeon? What were the specific reasons you chose him or her over other providers?

I was referred by my insurance provider Kaiser. After consulting with him I really felt like Dr. Liu understood me and cared about my goals. It was not a difficult decision to make and I’m very happy that I chose him.

What type of procedure did you have and why did you decide to have this procedure?

I had Facial Feminization Surgery. As I have grown older I have noticed that certain features on my face were becoming reflective of my assigned gender at birth. My brow bone seemed more prominent than ever and it started to make me feel insecure along with a receding hairline.

Describe your surgical experience and recovery.

My surgical experience was excellent. I was a bit nervous initially, but Dr. Liu was very comforting as were all of the nurses that assisted. My recovery was smooth and the fact that he called to check in on me on the night of the surgery really made me feel like he cared.

What were your fears about having this procedure and how did your surgeon help you overcome them?

FFS is a big surgery. I was most concerned about the pain I might experience during my recovery but it ended up not being an issue at all.

Describe why you are happy you chose this procedure. How has it positively impacted your life? Your self-esteem?

I now feel much more confident. When I look in the mirror I see a softer, very subtle change that is very natural looking. I still have about 9 months of healing left to do but I am already so happy with the progress I’ve had. In addition to feeling more confident overall, I feel and look younger and more congruent with the gender I identify with.

Tell us specifically about why you are happy you chose the surgeon you did? Describe his/her most outstanding qualities.

Dr. Liu has amazing surgical skills, specifically in brow bone reduction. After seeing photos of previous patients and the amazing changes they’ve had from the brow bone reduction alone, I knew I was going to be in great hands with Dr. Liu.

How did our staff support you in your surgical experience?

I want to thank the entire Polyclinic Plastic Surgery team for taking such great care of me. They were all amazing and comforting every step of the way.

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering this procedure?

If you are considering facial feminization surgery you should definitely consult with Dr. Liu. He will take great care of you and will be straight with you in a kind way.

Great first visit for gathering information on a possible procedure. In the reception area, I was greeted by friendly, helpful staff. They were very understanding when I arrived several minutes late due to the Seattle area traffic challenge! My questions prior to seeing the doctor were answered completely and professionally.
