Meet

Johnna

I am a 33-year-old stay-at-home mother of two amazing kids. As part of an ongoing effort to prioritize my health and fitness, I recently lost 60 pounds and I am feeling better than ever about my body. Getting my breasts reduced has been the icing on the cake!

How did you find your surgeon? What were the specific reasons you chose him or her over other providers?

I did a lot of research online and Dr. Welk had a lot of very compelling reviews from many patients. I also really liked the results I saw in his gallery of before and after pictures. I had planned on having more consults but after meeting with him I knew right away that I was going to be in good hands. The fact that he has more than 30 years of experience was also a huge benefit.

What type of procedure did you have and why did you decide to have this procedure?

I have had large breasts since puberty and they’ve always hindered my physical activity, especially exercise. I inquired about a breast reduction when I was 19, but insurance denied it. To make matters worse, I went up multiple cup sizes after the birth of my children. In addition, I breastfed my kids for a combined 5.5 years and as a result developed a lot of sagging, so much so that it was becoming hard to exercise or to find clothing that fit properly. After weaning my daughter I decided to finally go for a consult to learn more about breast reduction. Having recently lost over 50 lbs, I wanted my breasts to be proportional to my smaller size.

Describe your surgical experience and recovery.

My experience with the Polyclinic Plastic Surgery team was amazing. Check-in the day of surgery was smooth and efficient and I was back with a nurse in a matter of minutes. Everyone on the staff was so kind. Dr. Welk was very reassuring every step of the way and spent a great deal of time going over everything with me again to make sure I thoroughly understood what to expect. I also really appreciated that he gave me his personal cell number in case I had any questions post-op. My surgery went well and waking up from anesthesia was a breeze. My recovery has been amazing, way easier than I expected. I am already able to do more physically with less weight on my chest.

What were your fears about having this procedure and how did your surgeon help you overcome them?

My biggest fear was that I would be stuck in bed and unable to take care of my kids or exercise for weeks. Dr. Welk assured me that I would be back to living my normal life more quickly than I imagined and fortunately he was right. I’ve healed wonderfully and my energy returned right away.

Describe why you are happy you chose this procedure. How has it positively impacted your life? Your self-esteem?

I am so happy I choose this procedure because I can now be more active without feeling weighed down. I can play with my kids more and exercise without feeling fatigued quickly. I am beyond pleased with my results and feel so fortunate I had an artist like Dr. Welk to do this for me!

Tell us specifically about why you are happy you chose the surgeon you did? Describe his/her most outstanding qualities.

I am so happy I choose Dr. Welk because in addition to being highly skilled and experienced, he was also laid back and very reassuring throughout the entire process. He took his time with me both during my initial consult as well as right before surgery to help me understand exactly what was going to happen. I knew right away that I was in good hands and I am beyond pleased with my results. I look exactly like I hoped I would and I’m glad an artist like Dr. Welk could make that happen for me.

How did our staff support you in your surgical experience?

Dr. Welk’s patient care coordinator, Berenice, was amazing with all billing and insurance issues as well as with answering any questions I had quickly. The front desk assistants and all the nurses were always quick to answer my questions and address my concerns. Not once did I feel uneasy. The entire staff is compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable.

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering this procedure?

If you’ve been wanting a breast reduction for years my advice is to just go ahead and get it done! You won’t regret it. Don’t rely solely on other people’s experiences with this surgery. Do your own research and ask your specific surgeon all the questions you have about their process. Consider consulting with Dr. Welk. He is one of the most experienced plastic surgeons in Seattle and his work is pure artistry.
